it might not be a bad idea that if we're going to continue banging pete's server, we should at least buy it dinner and flowers...or a diamond ring (sorry jba, too easy to pass up)...seriously, if this becomes a drain on the man's hard drive, we might consider paypalling some cabbage his way...he's my bud and i don't want to take advantage...

Whatever you think is appropriate, I'm in for my share no problem.
I'm still uploading as I type!.... Let's see ahhhh 200 podcasts around 40MB each
8000MB or 8 gigs. He's probably got 10T or 20T meaning we will use less than 1% of his hard drive. That's my guess but IPADM is probably the best person to take a guess at this.

I'll pitch in for the paypal but not the flowers and Vaseline.

How do we access the podcasts from here?

uh, dude...got a message from pete...you crashed his server...since it's a webserver (not a storage server), he doesn't have that kind of capacity...i told him to delete the files...

that means we're going to need to come up with another solution...my thought is that we can pitch in on an external hard drive...something like a 1.5 TB drive ($150 to $200)...we can load it up with the podcasts and all of the javelin music, then send it to pete to plug in...we'll need to coordinate with him first...

Not a chance.. I don't believe you. The server never crashed, it kicked ass in fact.

Secondly, we don't need that kind of space. As I said we have around 8gigs in podcasts and another 2 or so for whatever else the site has. That's nothing, and we probably wont add too much to it so .......

As a gesture to Pete I'll be willing to contribute to a TB drive but it makes no sense as it relates to our space considerations.

whatever it did or didn't do, it didn't make pete a happy boy...said it took him 40 minutes to figure out what the hell happened...once he determined it was 4 (or 5) assholes from new jersey, his mood improved...

our site it roughly 3.2 gigs normally...it ballooned to over 12 gigs...

as for adding a drive to pete's box, he's not interested in that...said it would be easier to replace the machine than it would be to add anything...

that being said, he's not opposed to us posting stuff...but maybe we post 25 at a time...leave them there for a week or two...then delete them and add the next 25...we can also convert them to a lower bitrate...

ultimately, i don't know how important it is that they're posted...unless you guys have been cutting me out from all of the fan mail and groupies...

GoDaddy = 150gb of storage. $80 per year

Let it be know I am indeed sensitive to the situation and don't want to cause Pete trouble or cause friction between Matt and Pete.

That said, I want to know if it's O.K or not for us to use that space and if so fine. Otherwise, we can indeed do something like Den's suggested and then reference the audio files from our site to some other storage site. That's a big frickin pain in the ass but if it works for everyone, I'm game.

Sorry Matt, just trying to do some good stuff here for all of us.

After reading Matt's previous comment, would it make sense for all of us to contribute to a new machine for him then? I got 50 bucks for a free website with storage. Anyone else?

Now I see the files I uploaded are gone. Good for Pete, hell, I don't have 8GB I'd be willing to lend to some JBAshole for his kid band in South Jersey. 8GB.... .....WTF!

Here's what I suggest:

Matt, thank Pete for all his years of faithful service to the cause, he's a great man! However, we need our own place on the web now. Guys?????

Who can top Den's price for a site with hosting and 20-30GB a year???

Let's get it down to 10-20 bucks each for a year.. totally possilbe

As I said, I'll pitch in $50. the least I could do.

Readyhosting.com $100 per year hosting with 100GB. That's 20 each per year.... IPADM should even know a better deal right? Havn't looked around myself but I used ready hosting for another site before

Matt the Bass Player said...

sounds good so far...there should be a way to link it to the current site at pete's OR we could just move the whole thing...

Jeff said...

We'd just move the etire site.
I like the idea of being able to have access to all of the podcasts and all of our individual material from the site (any objections?).
Let's shop some more for a hosting deal.

Rob the drummer said...

Not for nothin but I think we all have the podcasts on some hardware somewhere or some other medium. Don't see the need for the access but I'll play along with the consensus.

Check this out $3.45 a month! $41.40 per year, thats $8.28 a year each. Hard to beat for unlimited space too. I say it's worth it. RR your comment is certainly a valid consideration however.
