The Death of Mistakes Means the Death of Rock

Good article about over fixing and correcting:

The funny thing is I've listened to Rain so many times for so long I don't even hear the mistakes. It's just how the song is played. Then when you hear people cover it they intentionally play the mistakes. Weird.

To be honest, this is why I didn't care for the Billy Two Shoes recording as much as I would have liked. When I was listening to the rough mixes, I liked what I heard. I thought some of the instrumentation was a bit over the top, but that's me. I preferred a simpler approach. But then James sent it to a friend to be mastered and when we got it back, I felt that all of the life had been compressed out of the bass track. The upright has a lot of dynamics that just didn't exist anymore. Fortunately, I didn't do much "fixing" when we recorded, so all of my mistakes still made the final cut.
